Billboards
by Doctor Marshall
Billboards.
You might think that the surge in Internet business start-ups would have seen a decrease in the amount of money that companies spend in offline advertising, but this simply isn’t true of the billboard industry. Two years ago outdoor advertising amassed an incredible turnover of .5 billion in the US alone. Advances in technology have seen the effectiveness of billboards increase and the cost and time of creating one decrease. Billboards used to have to be hand painted, which was a time consuming affair to say the least. Now, though, vinyl printing is the order of the day and you can design a billboard on a PC and have it printed and glued up within no time.
Saturation.
The hardest thing about outdoor advertising is getting people to remember your product, your service and your company. By using a newspaper ad you will be seen for only a day, but most people drive past the same billboard over and over again. After driving past the same thing a few times, people will remember the vital information on your advert. After a week of driving past a billboard twice a day they will probably want to know more and will undoubtedly remember your company name and your domain name.
The cost of a billboard.
Billboard advertising is more affordable that you probably imagine. Prices can range from 0 to ,000 per month. This may sound a lot but a couple of strategically placed small billboard ads at ,000 per month will get your advert seen by thousands of people and thousands of time. Your billboard is up there to be seen 24 hours a day, every day of the month and doesn’t stop working for you until it is taken down.
Less is more.
This is certainly of text on your billboard. A picture paints a thousand words is also true of your billboard. The point is that when a person is driving they have a second or so to look at your billboard and make a decision about the content. By including too much text you not only put people off reading it but put people off driving as well. Make your message short and snappy and include a very visual graphic display that is easy to spot and doesn’t take too much thinking to understand.
Billboard advertising is far from dead, and the lowered cost as well as increased technology means that you can get billboard adverts up in no time and for only a very low cost. As far as offline advertising goes, billboards are a perfect compliment to any marketing strategy.
