Using a memorable logo as part of efficient branding
by Doctor Marshall
Logos.
Company branding is an important part of your Internet business and will ensure that customers remember your company and the products that you or services that you sell. Without memorable company branding you will find it difficult to gain customers on a regular basis or keep the customers you already have. A logo is an important factor of this branding and you will probably use a good logo within the design of your company stationery, business cards, website, advertising material and online advertising methods. A lot of people make the mistake of writing down the name of their company changing the font and using that as a logo but this is unlikely to have the desired effect.
Common misconceptions of the logo.
A logo should not be used simply to put in the corner of your website and then be forgotten about. It will be used for many different aspects of your business, and should always be in your customer’s eye. This is even true of companies who are setting up an Ebay based business. If you post any products or information to your customers you should try wherever possible to use company packing slips, company letter headed paper and a business card. Effective branding will mean that your memorable logo should appear on all of this stationery as a reminder of who you are.
Logo design.
Logo design is something of a paradox. There are tried and tested techniques that you should incorporate into any logo design but you have to make your design original and memorable. If your logo looks the same as all of your competitor’s logos you will not stand out meaning that your branding has essentially been ineffective. Think of all the logos you can imagine right now and picture them. You will find it difficult to imagine any other logos that appear the same. Some of the better examples are Coca-Cola, HMV, Kellogs and Windows. These are all massive companies that everyone has heard of and there respective market positions, and in some cases market dominance, has been in no small part due to the use of a slogan within their company branding.
Imitation.
Imitation may be the most sincere form of flattery but it is done for a different reason. Superstores use branding on their own items that make them appear very similar to the product they are copying. This is done not only so that consumers pick up the wrong item but to take advantage of the branding that the big companies have already done. Because a level of trust has already been built around premium goods imitations gain some of this trust by appearing the same. However, good company branding for national or international sales should be done in a completely unique way. Make your logo stand out and you will be recognized as the leader in your industry. This means you can price your goods or your service accordingly.
