Recommended movies.

Ok, so you’ve had a busy week setting up your business and learning as many different sales techniques and pointers as you can. Finally the weekend is here and apart from a few letters you need to write and bits of paperwork you need to complete there’s no work that can’t wait until Monday morning to be completed (always allow yourself spare time every week). Why not sit down and watch a few movies with the family. There are some exceptional movies that have been created that are entertaining but also include some serious information on sales throughout the storyline, the plot and the character development.

The Boiler Room.

‘You have to be closing all the time. Be aggressive’ is one of the lines from the film. With a cast list that reads like who’s who and includes Ben Affleck, Vin Diesel and more. The whole film centers around the world of trading stocks and shares and there are some very useful philosophies, although you would do well to be a little less aggressive than most of the traders. Remember some of the lines from the film though, including the one above. The film itself is actually more entertaining than you might imagine when you hear that it’s about trading shares and a definite must for the would be salesman.

Glengarry Glen Ross.

Another all star cast with big movie names like Al Pacino, Jack Baldwin and Kevin Spacey this film is lightly older now (1992) but still easily available from good movie rental stores. It features around a competition for 3 salesmen within a company. First prize is a Cadillac, second prize is a set of steak knives and third prize is the sack. Again there are a number of line in the film that you should relate to if you are going to be doing the sales for your business. “A – B – C. A Always. B Be. C Closing. Always Be Closing” and “Only one thing counts in this life; get them to sign on the line which is dotted.”.

Wall Street.

There is a very good chance you’ve already seen this one. Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen feature as stock exchange traders who use illegal inside information to make their money and eventually to bring each other down. This is the oldest of the bunch of three films and if you haven’t seen it yet you really should watch it. It is the embodiment of business sales techniques in the 1980s and while these techniques had their problems they were essentially the best sales techniques available. Everything was about closing deals and this is exactly how you should treat the sales for your business.

Will watching movies really help?

There are a surprisingly large number of films that are based around the theme of selling and business. Many of them concentrate on the cutthroat sales world. While they may be movies they can still impart some useful information about sales and good techniques to use.
