Website Business Building Tools

by Doctor Marshall
Growing a website business is similar in many ways to building an offline business. Initially you will need the exposure that attracts customers to your website and once they are viewing your pages then you need to try to ensure that they purchase. Customer retention is also a very big part of any website business because repeat contracts or purchases are one of the most effective ways to create a regular, long-term income from your new business. There are several ways you can do this, and the effective use of each one will have a marked impression on the amount of customers you gain and your overall customer retention rate.

Newsletter

. A newsletter is used as an incredibly powerful source of website marketing and in many different ways. People love to get something for nothing, even if it is information or a newsletter that is used to promote your products.

Some customers may visit your site and decide that you offer a product or a service that they really want but not at that time. Regardless of how much they want your service though, once they leave your site there is only a very small chance they will return again in the future. When you offer a newsletter ensure that you have a tick box that allows you to contact them regarding offers. Tick it by default and label it so that customers must remove the tick in order to not receive this type of contact.

If a customer is interested in your service they will leave the tick in place, in fact most people leave the tick where it is and sign up. This means you not only have their email address to send a periodical newsletter but also to approach with your latest products or offers. The next time you send them an offer could just be the day that they decide they can no longer live without your product and you will have won a new customer.

A newsletter is an excellent form of customer branding. By including links to different pages of your website and different product offers you are ensuring that the newsletter recipients are not only being regularly tempted but also that your company name and the products you sell are being imprinted on their mind. When they do require a product you sell, your company will be one of the first they think of visiting.

Link page.

Links are the life of the Internet. Many of the major search engines, in particular Google, partially judge the relevance of a website on how many websites with similar content link to it. The more links your site has, the more popular it is and therefore the more relevant that search engines believe it to be. It is also widely believed that having a links page on your site is popular with search engines too. Obviously if the link is reciprocal and the website has a link back to you this will work wonders for the popularity of your site.

Gaining links from other websites can be difficult if you do not have anything to offer in return. By using a link or resource page on your website you are able to offer the same favour in return greatly increasing your chances of getting a link from the more popular sites related to your topic. It is important that you do not include too many links on a page, though, an absolute maximum of 30-40 should be adhered to otherwise you risk being considered a link farm and search engines penalize websites for this practise.

Visitors to your website will leave happier and happier depending on the amount of useful and relevant information you can provide them with. By giving links to sites with a similar theme to your own you are ensuring that visitors leave happy and that they are likely to return if they don’t get the information they want from the new site. We keep mentioning and going over the trust issue but it really is very important. The more information you give your visitors the more likely they are to trust you and people won’t do business with a source they don’t trust. This means it is important that you include links only to sites that your visitors would find useful in some way.

Affiliate program.

You may have some affiliate links on your site that give you money when your visitors click on them and purchase a product, but affiliate programs are of benefit to both parties and you should consider signing up to be a part of an affiliate program. If you don’t have the expertise to run your very own affiliate program for your site there are networks of programs that already have the benefit of a large number of publishers (websites that will display your link on their site) ready and waiting to effectively advertise your services.

The biggest advantage of setting up an affiliate program is obviously the new visitors that will frequent your site. They will usually be well-targeted visitors and some pre-selling will normally have been done by the website that directed them to you. There are some truly gifted webmasters who can very effectively market your website for you in exchange for a small percentage of the money you make through them.

Joining an affiliate program can vary in price, but there are services out there that are free to join meaning that it is not only an excellent way to promote your website but you don’t have to pay a penny until you make money through the service. This is especially true if you have the ability to set up your own affiliate program. It can be quite simple to do and even for a few dollars you can buy a script from a freelance programmer that you can use to this end. You can make the program as simple as you like, and even the websites that offer you a few dollars for each friend that signs up are operating an affiliate scheme.

Promoting your website can be a difficult balance at the beginning. Search engine traffic is the best traffic to receive because it is free and it is highly targeted but this can take several months before it really begins to create any noticeable difference to the number of visitors you have. Alternatively, many other methods of drumming up sales or registrations cost money and without customers in the first place this may be money your new company can ill afford. An affiliate program, however, means you do not need to pay out any money until the customers that are directed to your site spend some money.
